Life at Elm House Training

Your expectations in the beginning
In the beginning I expected to learn more about how children learn and how we as practitioners support that and encourage learning through play.
What your journey was like with Elmhouse Training
Elm house training was deeply considerate when I was going through a very difficult year in my life and a big transition. Elm house training made the course easier to handle whilst dealing with this transition and made learning not as overwhelming.
What you enjoyed in relation to class and learning
I really enjoyed interacting with other students and sharing ideas as everyone had completely different ideas and were all amazing. Interaction made the course more like a class environment rather than just studying.
What you found difficult when completing the course
I found the amount of work difficult to complete in the deadlines and trying to fit the coursework into my everyday life which is already super busy.
Support you were given by the organisation or the teacher
I was given lots of support by the organisation and the teacher allowing 1:1’s regularly and also like previously stated the break during my transition.
Tips for new learners who want to start their Level 3 qualification
I would advise that they find a regular schedule and routine to carry out coursework to ensure the deadlines are met and use the 1:1 support as often as needed.

Your expectations in the beginning
I have never thought to be an early year’s practitioner, but after some volunteering work at my son's nursery setting, they offered me the opportunity to help them as bank staff and this made my mind up that I wanted to be a practitioner. I made the decision to change my career to early education because I enjoy being able to make a difference in each child in my care.
My expectations were be prepared for class, work hard, hand in task and assignments on time and the belief that I will be getting promoted at my workplace.
What your journey was like
I remember being frustrated by how difficult many classes seemed at the beginning, sometimes it has been difficult for me keep up the classes, particularly those where it was necessary to answer quicks questions. As a person who English is my second language was often hard to do a good performance. After a year attending EYE classes I feel more confident working under pressure. so it became increasingly important to me to prepare the classes in advance. So, I did read from different sources such as websites, books, and discussions with my mentor, as all of this allowed me to work things out and have a good grasp of the principles rather than memorizing stuff.
What you enjoyed
I thoroughly enjoyed the classes where we were working in groups as the teacher was very helpful and patient, as well as being a lot of fun participating in quizzes and debates. I felt that I was a part of a team.
Support you were given
Always that I asked for help to understand a task or advise to improve any of my assignments the teacher has been very helpful. Also, she provides Speaking English sessions for learners who English is their second language.
Tips for new learners
• Hand in tasks on time otherwise this course could be very difficult to finish, there are loads of homework. • Read form different sources like articles, books, leaflets help to understanding on the subject. • Ask as many questions as possible to your teacher if there is something that you did not understand or need more information.

Your expectations in the beginning
In the beginning of the course, I wouldn’t say I had and expectation, other than finishing it within the one year period that I had thought I would have done.
What your journey was like
The journey has been very positive, I did have a couple of moments where I felt that it was over whelming, and I couldn’t find my focus ground. I would be very easily distracted if I was in the wrong environment. But at the end I came to release that I have worked hard, and I have come a long way there’s no point of stopping now.
What you enjoyed
I enjoyed being able to find out a lot of resourceful information though out the whole course, I was able to understand how children think in different ways and why they behave the way they do. I was also able to use what I was learning in to practice at my setting.
What you found difficult
What I found most difficult was keeping up with my deadlines and understand the questions. Also, what I learned during the course is that asking for help is alright, another issue that I had was knowing that I need help and not asking for that help. This made me miss deadlines and having lots of homework to catch up.
Support you were given
I would say I received a lot of support my tutors where able to help me understand the questions, even when they would explain the questions to me it’s not all of the time, I would understand it but my tutors would break it down in a way I would be able to understand.
Tips for new learners
My tip for new learners is that do not be afraid to ask for help and also stick to your deadlines otherwise it would be quiet hard to catch up.

Your expectations in the beginning?
My expectations were that it was going to be a full-on course where I will have to work hard to complete the course and receive my qualification.
What your journey was like
My journey was full of highs and lows. At one point I thought I would not be able to complete the course because I was finding it hard to balance home life and work life and doing this course at the same time but after a discussion from my tutor I felt a lot better.
What you enjoyed
I enjoyed my classes the most. They were fun and full of information to help with my assignments, and we also played some fun games too.
What you found difficult
Sometimes competing the work on time but with help and support I was able to complete all my work.
Support you were given
Whenever I had a question or needed support, I was always able to message my tutor and she always responded, or I would book a 1 to 1 with her which also helped a lot. She was always there when I needed any help or support.
Tips for new learners
Be prepared for hard work. But it will all be worth it at the end.

I have completed Level 3 Diploma in The Early Years educator in 2020. What can I say about teaching which I received from Elmhouse as I don't have any words to describe because teaching was outstanding, always received support from lovely lady Miss Zebina. Miss Zebina always supported me through-out this course which I successfully managed to complete. This course helped me to gain a better job and I have put all my effort, knowledge and skills I gained from this course at my work place which has satisfied me at my workplace as I am able to communicate effectively with parents, children and staff.
From this course I have learned so much such as I have improved my communication skills, understanding in Early Years. I managed to attend all the classes and found both easy online and lessons in the class because Miss Zebina was always very friendly and every lesson she made very interesting which I never felt bored to attend. I would definitely want to give message to new students to join Elmhouse because this course will help you very much and the way you get support is excellent. Very best of luck.

I completed the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Educator with Elmhouse. I started this course in 2018 and successfully finished in 2020. This was a life changing experience for me as I was given the opportunity to learn more about the field of education in the early years as well as develop many personal skills that support me in the workplace. I was privileged to have a teacher who was able to explain concepts in detail and use key words that we need to use in the setting, so I always felt like I was a knowledgeable member of staff. I received valuable
and clear teaching about safeguarding, legislation and prevent duty. This knowledge supported me greatly in interviews where I could clearly explain my answers through the skills I developed through my learning such as communication and body language and gestures to maintain an interesting conversation.
When I first started the course, I was a volunteer at a setting, however through the course, I developed many skills which allowed me to progress to becoming a practitioner at a new setting which is due to the quality of teaching from Miss Zebina who thoroughly made sure that I was being pushed to develop my knowledge and skills Elmhouse was very useful in supporting me because I was able
to book 1:1 support meeting, which gave me clear ideas on how to improve my work and I also received support for my grammar. Elmhouse also arranges many workshops which new learners can use to help improve their learning. I truly respect and admire Miss Zebina for being honest with my learning, giving encouraging advice and always giving me lots of questions to make me think of the answer independently which has helped in my practice as I feel confident and am able to make decisions in the setting.

I‘ve always wanted be a teacher and work with children, so I started volunteering at my local children centre. One of the workers said that I should do my qualifications and recommended Elmhouse Training. That’s how my journey with them started.
As a busy mum of two I was looking for the best option for me where I could have time for learning and still have time for my family. I started Level 3 Early Years Educator course online. This was the best choice for me as I colud have classes in my home. When I started my volunteering I didn’t realise how little knowledge I had about working with children. This course equipped me with very important information about safeguarding, equality, diversity, teach me about children’s development and their learning, how to observe them, assess and plan for them, how to provide them with healthy and safe environment where they can learn and develop. During the course my teacher gave me full support. I knew I could count on her with help and with providing me with resources I need to complete my assignments. As I was getting my qualifications manger of children centre where I volunteered offered me supply staff position. They saw me become more and more professional and confident in my work with children. In June 2020 when I finished the course and became qualified Early Years Educator they offered me contract and part time position.
I highly recommend Elmhouse Traning as they prepare you to be the best professional practitioner you could be.

I would like to thank Zebina Campbell and Elmhouse Training team for support and opportunity, I have completed my Level 3 qualification which was my aim for a long time and I also have been offered job that I did not expect.
I expected at the beginning that I would struggle as the course is intensive and challenging as I have be told. however, thanks to commitment and planning I have completed most of the assignments on time. My tutor gave me opportunities to read interesting articles and I have been watching videos that have me more understanding of the topic we have been reviewing at the time. The support in form of 1:1 was offers to all the students, the communication with tutor was excellent. we had opportunities to have discussions, participation in quiz. We had tasks to complete that involved different documents and resources, that also gave as a chance to look deeper into the topics we have discussed. The difficult part of the course was sometimes delivering the assignment in time; however, I have managed to complete most of the assignments on time. I would say I would like to spend more time on reading of articles, books but there was time I could find spare time for it as another assignment was to complete ahead.
The tutor support was great , whenever I need a advice, help or tips.
I would recommend to be well organised, determined for any candidates and you will be able to achieve your aim.

At the beginning of the course, I was really excited to finally be doing my level three although nervous as I had not studied for over 30 years and my computer skills were very limited. I found the journey throughout the course hard at the beginning as I could not get to grips with how to do the work online, but with help and support from family and Elmhouse I soon got the hang of it and learnt new skills along the way.
I really enjoyed learning new ideas and ways of working in my setting, also working online with others doing the same course, giving each other ideas and support and encouraging each other, the support I received from Zebina was amazing and she really encouraged me to reach my full potential.
I found it sometimes difficult to do everything on the computer as I was very limited in my knowledge of them, but over time with support I learnt a lot of new things and my computer skills improved so much.
The support and encouragement I was given throughout the course by my family, others on the course and especially Zebina was so helpful and gave me the confidence to continue, Zebina showed me so many times how to achieve through one to ones with me . I feel so proud of myself for completing the course and I have learnt so much about childcare and about what I can achieve if I put my mind to it.
My tips for new learners would be don’t give up, take all the advice and support offered, ask for help if needed as Elmhouse will always support and advice you. Another thing is don’t leave assignments to the last minute try to do some most nights even if it’s just an hour at a time, and when work comes back which it will, don’t feel deflated, just take your time read up on the subject, ask for advice and you will get there in the end and feel so proud of yourself. I should know I was a older student who had not studied for over 30 years with no computer skills and I did it . Sometimes I did feel overwhelmed by it all, but I always asked for help which will always be given. Never give up.
